The table illustrates the number of students living in the UK gaining English language teacher training qualifications by gender in August 2007 and in September 2008, and the rate of male qualifiers.
In general, the total number of English language students was similar in 2007 and 2008 (32,930 and 32,945 respectively). Moreover, the total number of female language teachers and female TEFL teachers explains more than half of the training qualifications.
In 2007, 23,842 female obtained English language teachers qualifications. In 2008, the number increased to 24,324 in contrast, the total number of male qualifiers gently decreased to 7,511 from 8,165.
By 2008, the rate of total male qualifiers (24.7 %) and the percentage of TEFL qualifiers ( 26.9 %) slightly decreased by 2 % and 0.7 % respectively. Therefore, the decline of male quantifiers who obtained Cambridge UCLES CELTA and other degrees was sharper than others (5.2 %).
It is clear, the total number of TEFL and Cambridge UCLEC CELTA and other degrees almost remained the same.
