The table illustrates the imprisonment figures in five countries namely Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, the United State and Canada between 1930 and 1980. The figures are measured in thousand.
Overall, the number of imprisonment figures remained almost stable between 1930 and 1950. The figures of Great Britain and the United State were greater than other 3 countries except in 1930.
In 1970, the number of Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand were the same (almost 70 thousand) while the number of the United State was the greatest (approximately 100 thousand). At the end of the period, the number of Australia had declined to more than 40 thousand, meanwhile, the number of both New Zealand and Great Britain had risen to slightly more than 80 thousand. The figure of the United State was at the peak at less than 140 thousand.
It is clear that the figures of Great Britain and the United State had risen while other figures had declined.
