Nowadays, parents put too much pressure on their children to make them successful on both academic and personal lives. There are several reasons which account for this change such as the importance of education and increasing media attention on education. I think it is a negative development due to the fact, it can cause them to lose their inner motivation, therefore, it may lead them to be anxious and depressive.
Firstly, in most cultures education has gained great importance. Governments have started to invest in universities to improve their efficiency. New policies and regulations have been made to promote education. For example, in China, the government offers a discount to buy a house for the top students.
Secondly, media attention is also one of the factors which contribute to psychological pressure on the students. Media attention portrays education as a race. Media offers examples to allow parents to make comparisons. Education is advertised as a tool to be a part of an upper class.
On the other hand, there are limited examples which disprove that the pressure cannot improve success. As I can remember, musical genius, Mozart also pressured severely by his father.
In my opinion, there are more negative outcomes than positive outcomes. I think the most important element which lead success is inner motivation. There is no doubt, the effect of pressure is temporary but its emotional consequences are not. In addition, acute stress because of the pressure of mother and father can cause depression and anxiety.
In conclusion, I believe that education is highly essential for society while I also think that emotional pressure on children cannot improve their efficiency.
